This weekend Stumpjack has a really fine double-header of live music.

Pagelmania hits the Midwest
Here's the Flickr set of Pick & Squeeze from Friday night's gig. Greg played for an hour by himself as Andy was apparently cross-dressing and running in circles in a public place and thus couldn't make the beginning of their scheduled gig (he says he was in some "Relay for Life" event and that he had to dress up as a fairly princess...whatever, Andy...). Anyway, Greg played some really cool electronic, ambient improvisational funkificationalized diddlydoodah on his electric organ for an hour (man, I wish we had recorded that...so cool!).
Pick & Squeeze...Andy looking determined to get home and get that Snow White dress off the hanger one more time...while Greg looks on wistfully.
After an hour of digging Greg's melodic musings and everyone talking about Andy behind his back, Andy (aka Pick) finally showed up (sans fairy princess garb) to join Greg (aka Squeeze) and got down to it with, as we like to say down south, "some mighty fine pickin' there!" He even set down his guitar and accompanied Greg's accordion with a fiery flute solo, though try as he might he looked nothing at all like Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, even with leg raised practically over his head as he played (sorry Andy, perhaps you need to let the beard grow and get more scraggly).
Another fun night from Pick & Squeeze (or, as we like to call them, those naughty Pagel boys). They promise to return to lay waste to all who stand in their way as they burn their subliminal musical manifesto into the minds of the weak-willed masses! Yea, you have been forewarned!

Pick & Squeeze; Kelly Underwood Deviled Ham
Got the dates wrong on the poster images below...Friday is the 25th and Saturday is the 26th.
Those naughty Pagel boys are back. Tomorrow (Friday) night at 8:00...Pick & Squeeze with guitar and accordion in hand and ready to rumble. Be here if you're not too chicken.
Then on Saturday night at 8:00 it's Kelly Underwood and her death defying high wire act, where no one under the age 6 months or over 97 is safe from her acoustic daggers of death. Come and see more pickled artichokes in one place than anywhere else in the continental United States. And don't forget, Stumpjack has new summer/fall hours:
Mon-Thu: 7am-4pm
Fri-Sat: 7am-9pm or until the cows come home.
Sun: 8:30-1:00 or until I get tired.

Pick & Squeeze nearly cause riot as rabid fans rush the stage!
Here are the pics from tonight's gig with Andy and Greg...what a blast! I'm beat and am going home to pass out...will add more tomorrow...Ok, it's "tomorrow" now...Monday actually. What a night that was. At one point I wormed my way up front and yelled at Greg and Andy, "What the heck are these people here for? You guys aren't even that good!" To which I was immediately manhandled by the attendant throng, body-surfed to the front door and summarily tossed out into the street.
Andy and Greg are two of the nicest guys around, and what fabulous musicians. Just another example of how rich the talent pool is in this little corner of the country. They'll be back on Friday July 25th...and we'll be bringing in reinforcements to help handle the mob. Greg will be here on Friday, June 6th with cellist extraordinaire Matt Turner.

Nevermind the bollocks, here's Pick n' Squeeze!
Saturday night at 7:00: Those two handsome and courageous daredevils, Andy and Greg Pagel, aka "Pick n' Squeeze," will be at Stumpjack Coffee to entertain and mystify you. It's tough to nail these two guys down to an actual date...I find them very irritating that way...but it's always worth the aggravation because they play some very tasty stuff. The first 100 people in the door would get a free troll doll if we had any on hand...but we don't.

This Weekend's Happenings

Before closing shop tonight I wanted to get a few pics on here from the Cigars in the Park powwow. Joe had two great cigars picked out: a Rocky Patel Edge Corojo and a Punch Gran Puro Santa Rita, which we paired with two coffees: a nice Guatemalan and a really fine Papua New Guinea (oh so good...). Pete Honzik serenaded the small gathering with a myriad of acoustic selections, a veritable plethora of eclectic tunes from his fertile mental catalogue of songs (italics=inside joke). Pete is always good, but tonight was a real treat as he pulled out a bunch of tunes he hasn't performed in a while, and played some great stuff from, to name just a few, Michael Hedges, Leon Redbone, The Pogues and even a little Who medley of sorts...very spontaneous and enjoyable. Man, what an absolutely gorgeous evening in downtown Two Rivers...just what the doctor ordered to close out the week. I'm really looking forward to the next Cigars in the Park...nice job, Joe.
Pete's playing over at Element right now, so Kim and I are heading over for a little more R&R right now. Y'all have a fun weekend!

Pick and Squeeze
Another full house, standing-room-only at the Stumpjack tonight for "Pick & Squeeze" (Greg and Andy Pagel). What a fun time tonight and what an age-diverse crowd...it never ceases to amaze me what a range of ages we attract and even more amazing and cool is how absolutely courteous, thoughtful and respectful most everyone seems to be to one another (this is worth some ink on a future post). Andy and Greg are very skillful musicians with a wide and deep repertoire, a great sense of humor and a rather unique style that blends jazz, folk and ragtime into their own funky neo-retro sound. We're having the guys back sometime in early June. Here's a few pics from tonight.
